Anyone for coffee?
At The Crown we love nothing more than a posh coffee and slice of cake. It seems that cappuccino, latte, mocha and espresso have become as much a part of English foodie culture as afternoon tea and Sunday roasts. But where did our obsession with coffee come from?
Coffee culture really kicked off the UK in the 1990s. The twenty somethings of the 1990s were looking to emulate their Wall Street counterparts and coffee was the perfect way to emulate the desirable New York lifestyle. The rise of personal digital technology meant that students and workers alike could take laptop and mobile phone in hand, find a cosy spot in a coffee shop and happily work away in the comfort of a coffee haze. Of course the popularity of the hugely successful TV show Friends helped too (who can forget Central Perk!).
At the Crown you are welcome to come in and enjoy a coffee. We even have a coffee loyalty scheme which means that for every nine drinks you buy the tenth is free. So why not pop in with a few friends, it could perk up your day!
